A Frankfurt climate protection initiative does not want to know anything about the possible expansion of the A5 between the Main metropolis and Friedberg. The specifications were “like falling out of time,” she says.
AThe Riedberg Climate Protection Initiative has described the planned expansion of the A5 as oversized. According to the initiative, which has been a registered association since January and campaigns for a climate-neutral Riedberg by 2030, the planning looks “as if it had fallen out of time”. The expansion should be stopped and instead the speed limited – “for less traffic jams, noise and CO2 emissions”. The young district of Riedberg is already enclosed by motorways and multi-lane main roads such as Marie-Curie and Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse.
The expansion of the section between Friedberg and Frankfurter Kreuz on ten lanes is currently being investigated. Against this background, the initiative appeals to the city to exhaust all legal possibilities to prevent the expansion of the A5 and all other motorways in the city area. In the past, the local councils 7 (Hausen, Praunheim and Rödelheim) and 12 (Kalbach and Riedberg) had spoken out against a ten-lane expansion of the motorway.
